Tabax Subė
The world that
our children inherit is being built today
and we are responsible for building
it. Tabax Subė ("to build tomorrow" in Wolof) is designed to facilitate our
doing so.
Tabax Subė describes our
role, mission, and process. Tabax Subė
executes
low-overhead, resident-driven operations through
high energy activities to produce
sustainable people-centered results.
Tabax
Subės principal project
sites
are in the Village of Camberene, a semi-autonomous jurisdiction and Guediawaye,
a municipal sub-division. Both are located in Dakar, Senegal. A secondary
project site is located in the fishing village of Bargny, located about 15 miles
from Dakar, near the City of Rufisque.
Tabax Subė exemplifies the multi-dimensional partnership that connects
The Obsidian, Fondation
Tabax Subė
(FTS), with Senegalese communities and their residents.
Tabax Subė creates
a venue for authentic interaction among activists from around the
world.
Through
Tabax Subė we are working to convene, discuss, devise, and create.
Tabax Subė facilitates authentic exchange and creative interaction among experts of day-to-day life --
the ordinary people who are willing to do extraordinary things. Tabax Subė
seeks to connect them to the resources needed to bring their ideas to fruition.
While
attracting visitors globally and promoting trans-continental relationships, Tabax Subė stimulates the local
economy through direct job creation
and enterprise development. Joint ventures and public/private partnerships
involving professionals, technicians, tradesmen, craftspeople, from Africa,
Asia, Europe, and
North America help sustain its capacity as an "economic engine."
It is clear
that multi-national corporations invigorate macro-level economic development.
Such development, however, does not always reach the grassroots. Tabax Subės
focus, therefore, is on the micro-level. Wherever possible, linkages are
developed to promote job creation and sustainable micro-enterprise. Tabax Subė is conceived as a catalyst for locally based economic development. Organic,
bottom-up processes anchor its philosophical base. Tabax Subės staff
is predominantly Senegalese.
Tabax Subė is a virtual laboratory. Through it, sustainable
development techniques can be developed and refined for subsequent
replication.
Tabax
Subė demonstrates that it is possible to think globally and,
simultaneously, act locally.
